The Consumer AI Gap
What’s the consumer AI story?
The one that makes the investment money worth it?
The average person doesn't think in terms of automation, even those that have a task that could be automated. I have a software brain and still haven't found something I want to build in Shortcuts/Automator.
We can already shout into the air to play music and switch on our lights, but few do. Our Google Home devices set timers and send music to Sonos. Our Home Assistant Voice Preview device hooked up to the full power of ChatGPT has been used twice.
Grammarly could already help with your writing, but they weren’t a huge business and most of us don’t write that often. Especially for personal use.
My phone telling me when to leave to pickup my mum from the airport is a good demo - but I already know how far away the airport is. I already have calendar reminders.
For the small tasks most of us would find helpful - searching for photos, trying to find a document - a local model will do just fine.
That means it’s a tool for business. It’s an AWS, not an iPhone.
That doesn't make it worthless. AWS is a very successful business. And we've been experimenting with some very useful AI-based tools at TeamWeb.
But iPhone makes 2x the revenue of AWS.
