Scary, yet Cool Part 2
Turns out that worm that killed the other worm, was an even bigger terror than the original worm. I guess that answers the question of whether we should be worried about it or not.

I think Dell should institute a new policy. HP as well. And anybody else who sells PC’s. With every machine sold I think two cards should be included. A4 or larger in size, preferably a good bright colour, and a notice on the outside of the plastic covering they are wrapped within should suggest sticking them to the wall next to your work area.
The first of these cards, in large letters, would say “DON’T PANIC”. I feel that Douglas Adams’ advice is very appropriate to a new computer user, especially as they approach the internet for the first time. There’s a lot to learn, and it can be overwhelming. A gentle introduction is therefore required and remembering these two little words might help ease users into it.
The second card however is the really important one, and should be regarded as the single most important bit of advice our imaginary customer will ever be given about their computer. Once again, the message will be printed in large letters. If technology allows, some sort of speaker should be installed on the back of the card to announce the message at regular intervals, should the users memory suddenly lapse, or if they simply haven’t looked at the card for a couple of hours.
“DON’T OPEN ATTACHMENTS ON EMAILS YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND YOU FUCKING MUPPET!”
It’s a worm that kills last weeks worm then downloads and installs the Microsoft patches that plug the security hole that allows these worms to invade your system in the first place!
Should we be scared of something like this? It even deletes itself on 1st Jan 2004. I’d say "discuss", but I haven’t added comments on here yet.
The New York major is currently sounding very annoyed with the press. Not the best way to handle the situation. They’re not asking very difficult or probing questions.
They now say there was no fire and that the black smoke was caused by the system going off when it overloaded.
New York, Detroit, Cleveland, Toronto and Ottawa are all without power due to a fire at a transformer in the 14th street facility in New York, which then caused a cascade failure up the grid and effected all the other cities. Also the word is that some Niagara power station was overloaded.
Pretty crazy images on FOX news, tens of thousands of people on the street, but everybody is calm which is good. They’re also 100% sure it’s not terrorism related, which is also good.
Curse eBay once more, for you are the devil.
Photos of my latest purchase on here in a couple of days. It meets all my requirements for a good technology item, both classic console hardware and related to my favourite fruit based hardware company.
I just finished watching the first season of 24 (yes, I know the second series just finished on BBC2 tonight, but I had to make sure I’d seen the first one before I moved on). I’ve had it on DVD since last year and only just sat down to watch it a few weeks ago. And I’m glad I did. Honestly the best television I’ve seen in years. And I was straight onto Amazon tonight to order the second season which is released on DVD here in the UK tomorrow.
On an unrelated note, the heat in here is ridiculous.
Wow, can you believe it’s August already. No, neither can I.
Chatbear is really starting to annoy me. Honestly I can’t be bothered with it anymore, despite the fact that it’s meant to go into subscription mode at the end of the month. The hassle of taxes and everything else has just completely put me off handling it all. I’d say there’s quite a large percentage of me figures I should just cut my losses now and move on with my life. It has cost so much already that I think it would be quite a while before I saw any of it back to any great degree anyway.
Anybody know somebody who wants to buy a slightly soiled messageboard service?
